Fruits and vegetables contain antibodies that defend them from external attacks by bacteria and fungi. Unfortunately not all cultures contain as high concentrations as others. Like citrus fruits, for example, these contain terpenes that help fight any type of bacteria and fungi. Grupo Fagro isolated these terpenes from citrus fruits to create this organic biofungicide and thus give crops an extra defense to the one they already have.

Normally these antibodies come from certain parts of the cells, these extracted terpenes are kept in a solution and applied to the crops, turning them into protectors and oxidants.

In order for a Biofungicide to be considered capable, it must have 75% effectiveness. Biomold meets this requirement and apart from that it does NOT contaminate the fruit and therefore does NOT generate a risk for the consumer, especially in fruits and vegetables with edible peels, since they are being protected in a natural way. Since Biomold uses these terpenes, there would be no risk of chemical residues being found, since the terpenes are natural.

It could be summarized that the application of Biomold is comparable to the application of a natural vaccine, so that the fruit has additional defenses and thus achieve a better shelf life and reduce food loss and waste. This would collaborate with the FAO “SAVE FOOD” initiative that deals with the reduction of food waste.

One quality of Biomold is that it can be applied with waxes to give better protection to crops, such as the PHS and Grupo Fagro waxes.
